Your body is a spacesuit. It allows your soul to exist in this world. That is its purpose. No one could ever mistake the spacesuit for the man inside it. Before Adam and Java's sin there was no shame, therefore there was no need for suits. They clearly perceived that the neshama, the soul, is the essence of the person, and that the body is only his spacesuit. However, after their sin, this distinction became blurred and it was necessary to show that the body has importance only as long as it sustains the neshama. Since the body is visible, man easily becomes confused and comes to the conclusion that he should attribute the greatest importance to it.
